The New Official Mead of Dragon Con
Ever wanted to have âyour brains smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped around a large gold brickâ with the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, only âthe best drink in existence?â Congrats! Monks Meadery has the second-best drink in existence, the Dragon Blaster.
This year, Monks Meadery is bringing you a new official mead of Dragon Con. Weâre switching it up with glitter and a lemon twist. After the success and popularity of Bacchus Blushed, Justin wanted to create a mead just as enjoyable while staying true to the Dragon Con fandom. Plus, he had always thought it would be fun to recreate the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster from The Hitchhikerâs Guide to the Galaxy.
Dragon Con
Dragon Con is Atlantaâs native multi-genre, popular culture convention. At the time of its origin, most conventions stayed focused on one genre, while fans had multiple interests. Dragon Con originators decided to change that, bringing fantasy, science fiction, gaming, comics, art, music, and literature together at the first ever Dragon Con in 1987. The convention proved to be a success with a turnout of 1,200 fans which kept doubling in the next couple of years and reached over 62,000 attendees in 2014.Â
Today, among the many things to do at Dragon Con, the event remains the best place to showcase and see the finest, most elaborate costumes of your favorite superheroes. Seriously, this is as close as it gets to seeing a true-life Loki and Starlord. (Obviously the authorâs personal favorites.)Â
The Dragon Con and Monks Meadery Partnership
If you have ever met Justin in the taproom, you can immediately tell he enjoys a good gathering. His first time attending Dragon Con was in 2013 and some years later Dragon Con was his and his wife’s first date. Justin thought that Dragon con was a fun party and that this local family-owned event would be a great tie-in for locally made mead.Â
The partnership began in 2019 when he presented the owners with 5 new flavors. Justin was adamant that Dragon Con deserved its own flavor of mead that had to be easy drinking and approachable by all the fans that attended. Thatâs how Dragonâs Nectar was born. The official mead of Dragon Con took the stage for the first time in 2020 and was a huge hit among the festival goers.Â
However, bringing mead to the fans wasnât just that easy. The hard work started in 2015. While trying to get a hold of the eventâs organizers, Justin started selling his mead directly to the hotels where Dragon Con took place. Throughout the convention, Justin would periodically load a cab with kegs of the original Monks Mead and take them to the festival to replace the empties.
Get it Before it’s Gone
So if youâve ever wondered what the best drink in existence tastes like, make sure to try the Dragon Blaster and have your brain gently massaged by a lemon thatâs wrapped around 42 specs of edible mica. Dragon Blaster is available now in the taproom and online, and of course at Dragon Con during labor day weekend.Â
P.s. if youâre a fan of the OG Dragons Nectar, get it before itâs all gone.
